Lincoln Charities Fundraiser 11-11-2012

A day in the dirt for Lincoln Charities

#UPDATE# 12-17-2012

It’s on! Wrist is healed enough to race, so the 12/30 race is a go!

There’s a been a change of venue since the last update, we’re now racing at North Carolina Motorsports Park in Henderson, NC. (Event flyer here) This is a lot closer to home – about 45 minutes north of Raleigh, so anyone who wants to come out and see what hare scramble racing is all about, this would be a great opportunity. I can’t promise you a win (I’ve gotten woefully out of shape and out of practice in the down time), but hopefully there’ll be some of that fabled home-track advantage working in our favor. The course will include one of the motocross tracks, so spectating opportunities should be prime.

#UPDATE# 10-25-12

Due to unforeseen circumstances, namely Bob running his bike into a tree during a practice session at NCMP and breaking his left wrist, he will not be participating in the 11-11-2012 Pipsico race. In its place, he will be racing an event late December ( tenative date/location 12/30 @ Petersburg, Va).  Stay tuned for updates.

Video of the crash here, but be forewarned, there’s some post-crash language..

#Original post# 10-4-2012

On November 11th 2012, Bob Stephenson (lead tech @ Inman Park Apartments) will be competing in an off-road motorcycle race in Spring Grove, Virginia in an effort to raise money for Lincoln Charities, a 501c3 charity which serves Lincoln Property Company employees and their families in times of need.

Leading the pack, August 12, 2012 at Martinsville, Va

Bob was an avid dirt bike rider and amateur woods racer until being sidelined by some knee problems followed by two leg surgeries – the first in December 2010 and the second in April 2011. After a somewhat shaky ‘comeback’ attempt at the tail end of the 2011 race season – which included the first ever “Day In The Dirt” last November, he spent the off-season in training and as a result finds himself in the unfamiliar but extremely satisfying position of 2012 VCHSS championship contender.

The race itself is the VCHSS (Virginia Championship Hare Scramble Series) Pipsico 100, which is a woods race approximately 25-30 miles in length with a C-class field somewhere north of 200 riders.

So, where does the fundraising part come in? Glad you asked 🙂 You may pledge a certain dollar amount per mile for every official mile that Bob completes during the race, up to a maximum of 30 miles. Or if you prefer, you may simply pledge a lump sum amount.

So for instance, if you pledge a dollar per mile and Bob completes 23 miles, your donation is 23 bucks. If you pledge a dollar per mile and Bob completes 35 miles, your maximum total donation is 30 dollars (based on the 30-mile maximum).

Your pledge can be any amount at all – there are no minimum requirements – and can be in the name of an individual or your property/company/organization.

Upon completion of the race, you will be contacted with the official results and the total amount that corresponds to the amount that you pledged. All pledges are expected to be fulfilled no later than 2 weeks after the race (deadline December 1st 2012).

If you would like more information on our fundraising event or would like to pledge, please contact either:

OR, you can fill out the form below with your name, contact info and pledge amount(s) and email it straight to us!

Thank you!
